Long-time Academy Cross Country Coach Adam Kedge was one of three coaches to be inducted into the New Mexico High School Coaching Association (NMHSCA) Hall of Honor during the New Mexico High School Sports Summer Conference on July 25.
The New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor is the highest award recognized in the NMHSCA. To be chosen as an NMHSCA Hall of Honor Inductee, the coach must have reached the pinnacle of coaching in New Mexico or shown decades of commitment to the NMHSCA.
“This prestigious recognition is a true testament to Adam’s dedication, passion, and outstanding contributions to high school coaching,” said Athletic Director Taryn Bachis. “Adam joins an esteemed group of individuals as one of the few to ever receive this honor at Albuquerque Academy. As far as I know, we have only had two other individuals inducted into this prestigious group – Dave Barney, a legendary swim coach, and Mike Brown, a revered basketball coach.”
Coach Kedge, a member of the Academy science department who has been with the school since 1997, is the head coach of boys and girls cross country and the head coach of boys track and field. This past fall, the girls cross country team finished an undefeated season with a state championship and individual champ, while the boys took home the red trophy at state. In the spring, both boys and girls track and field teams were runners-up at state.
The bio from the association noted the following achievements:
- 33 years of coaching interscholastic sports
- 63 seasons as a head coach
- 26 seasons in boys track and field
- 28 seasons in boys cross country
- 9 seasons in girls cross country
- 99 individual track and field state champions
- 13 individual cross-country state champions
- 32 state team titles
- a streak of 59 consecutive seasons finishing with a state trophy
“As a lifelong educator, Kedge inspires both his students and athletes to reach their full potential while instilling values of hard work, perseverance, and determination,” said the association.
